eSIM (embedded SIM card) technology has revolutionized the way we connect our devices to mobile networks. Unlike traditional SIM cards that you physically insert and remove, eSIMs are embedded directly into the device. This innovation allows for greater flexibility, easier carrier switching, and eliminates the need for those tiny, easy-to-loose cards. With an eSIM, switching between different networks or activating a new plan can be done digitally, often in just a few taps.

Imagine never having to hunt for a local SIM card while traveling abroad or struggling with SIM card adapters. eSIM technology makes this a reality. It offers unparalleled convenience, enabling users to switch networks seamlessly and manage multiple profiles on one device. Whether you’re a frequent traveler, a digital nomad, or just need reliable internet connection on the go, an eSIM hotspot is a game-changer.

Advanced Tips and Tricks

Optimizing Data Usage

  • Limit Background Data: Disable background data for non-essential apps to conserve data.

  • Use Data-Saving Modes: Enable data-saving modes available on your device to reduce data consumption.

  • Monitor Usage: Regularly check your data usage and adjust settings accordingly to avoid overage charges.

Extending Battery Life of Your Hotspot Device

  • Reduce Screen Brightness: Lower the screen brightness to conserve battery life.

  • Turn Off When Not in Use: Turn off the device when it’s not needed to save power.

  • Use Power-Saving Modes: Enable power-saving features if available on your device to extend battery life.

Enhancing Security and Privacy

  • Enable Encryption: Use WPA3 encryption for your hotspot to secure your connection.

  • Use a VPN: Consider using a VPN for an additional layer of security and privacy.

Best Practices for Using eSIM Hotspots

  • Research Plans: Always research and choose the best data plan for your needs.

  • Monitor Usage: Keep track of your data usage to avoid unexpected charges.

  • Update Devices: Regularly update your device to ensure optimal performance and security.

Data Tethering Tips

  • Choose the Right Tethering Method:

    • Wi-Fi Tethering: Ideal for connecting multiple devices. Set up a secure Wi-Fi hotspot on your mobile device to share your internet connection.

    • Bluetooth Tethering: Suitable for connecting a single device with low data requirements. This method uses less battery power and provides a stable connection.

    • USB Tethering: Offers a stable and often faster connection compared to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Connect your mobile device to a computer via a USB cable to share the internet.

  • Monitor Data Usage: When tethering, keep an eye on your data usage to avoid exceeding your data plan limits. Tethered devices can consume a significant amount of data, especially when streaming or downloading large files.

  • Optimize Connected Devices: Adjust the settings on connected devices to limit data-intensive activities. For instance, disable automatic updates and background app refresh on devices connected to your hotspot.

How can I reinstall a deleted eSIM or reinstall an existing eSIM in my new phone?

If you delete your eSIM from YOverse or lose your device, you cannot reinstall it, so if you plan to buy another plan at a later date, you will need to pay the activation fee of $0.70 Euro (which covers your eSIM for 1 year) again and reinstall a new eSIM.

How can I delete an eSIM from my phone?

If you wish, you can manually remove your eSIM. To remove your eSIM follow these steps:

Go to Settings

  • Tap Mobile data or Mobile data

    • Tap your mobile plan

    • Tap “Remove mobile plan”

If you remove your eSIM you will no longer be able to connect through this line. Any contacts you have associated with this line will default to your preferred line.

How can I allow data switching between my plans? [Advanced users]

To allow your phone to automatically select which SIM to use data from based on coverage and availability, turn on “Allow mobile data switching” in your settings. Note that if you are roaming and only want to use your YOverse eSIM or data, you should then make sure that “Allow mobile data switching” is turned off. If “Allow mobile data switching” is turned on, your phone will automatically use data from both phone plans, depending on which network is strongest at any given moment. This option is best for people who want to stay connected no matter what. There is no way to know which plan is being used at any given time, however, so this option can consume data quickly if you are not aware of it. To turn on Allow mobile data switching, follow these steps (steps may vary depending on phone model):

  • Go to Settings

  • Tap either Cellular or Mobile Data.

  • Tap Mobile Data.

    • Turn on Allow Mobile Data Switching

Your data line automatically switches for the duration of your call. Mobile data switching will not work if you are currently roaming and both eSIMs are not set to allow data roaming. Check with your provider for availability and to find out if additional charges apply.

How do I see how much data is left on my plan?

You are able to see it in the application in the “My eSIM” bubble; click on the data plan under “Active Data Plans” to view its remaining data. Once your data runs out, you will no longer have an internet connection without Wi-Fi.
