What is an eSIM card?

eSIM, or embedded SIM, is a modern SIM card technology seamlessly integrated into devices, eliminating the need for a physical card. It operates similarly to a traditional SIM card, facilitating calls, texts, and internet access through mobile networks.

In contrast to physical SIM cards, eSIMs streamline the process by eliminating physical swapping or insertion. Instead, they rely on a programmable chip that can be remotely activated and utilized. eSIM technology provides the convenience of switching between carriers effortlessly and supports multiple profiles on a single device.

An eSIM data plan works by digitally storing subscriber information on a device’s embedded SIM chip, allowing users to connect to a mobile network without a physical SIM card. Users can activate, manage, and switch between eSIM data plans directly from their device settings or through a compatible app provided by their mobile network operator.

Can I use unlimited eSIM plans for data-only devices like tablets or laptops?

Absolutely, eSIMs are ideal for data-only devices such as tablets or laptops, providing a convenient means to connect these gadgets to a mobile network without a physical SIM card.

Consult your device’s user manual or visit the manufacturer’s website for information and instructions on eSIM compatibility. On compatible devices, you can usually find eSIM settings in the settings menu, which will allow you to install, add, delete and manage eSIM profiles.

How can I check if my device is ‘unlocked’ to use an unlimited eSIM data plan?

If you’re not sure whether your device is unlocked or locked, you can:

– Contact your current mobile service provider and ask them if your device is locked. They can provide you with information on how to unlock it if it is currently locked.

– Check your device’s settings or documentation for information on carrier lock status. Some devices have settings or features that allow you to check the lock status.

– Visit your mobile service provider’s website or call their customer support to inquire about unlocking your device.

If your device is locked, you may need to contact your network provider to request an unlock, especially if you intend to use an eSIM from a different carrier. Keep in mind that the process and eligibility for unlocking a device can vary depending on your mobile service provider and the terms of your contract.

When does my unlimited eSIM data plan start?

The start date of your unlimited eSIM data plan depends on when you purchase and activate the eSIM on your device and the specific terms and conditions of the plan provided by your mobile service provider. Here are some common scenarios:

– Immediate Activation: In many cases, your unlimited eSIM data plan starts as soon as you activate it on your device. This means that the plan becomes active, and you can start using data as soon as the activation process is complete.

– Scheduled Activation: Some eSIM plans allow you to schedule the activation for a future date and time. This feature can be convenient if you want your plan to start at a specific time, such as when you arrive in a different country or at the beginning of a billing cycle.

– Upon First Mobile Data Usage: With certain unlimited eSIM plans, the plan might start when you use data for the first time after activation. This means that you won’t be charged or use data until you actually access the internet or use a data service.

Do unlimited eSIM plans have an expiration date?

Yes, unlimited eSIM plans typically have an expiration date, which varies depending on the carrier and the specific plan you choose. The expiration date is usually specified by the carrier at the time of purchase or activation of the eSIM plan. It’s essential to check the terms and conditions of your eSIM plan to understand the validity period and any associated expiration dates.

Some unlimited eSIM plans may offer options for auto-renewal or extending the validity period, while others may require manual renewal or repurchase after the expiration date.

– Inform Authorities: If your device was stolen, report the theft to the relevant authorities, such as the police. Provide them with any necessary information, such as the device’s IMEI number, to assist in recovery efforts.

This option is particularly convenient for users who rely on their devices for browsing, streaming, or remote work tasks while on the go.

How many numbers can be active on eSIM?

In many cases, modern smartphones and other eSIM-enabled devices can support multiple eSIM profiles simultaneously, allowing you to have more than one active number on a single device. The exact number of eSIM profiles and numbers that can be active at the same time may vary from device to device.

Thus it’s essential to check your device’s specifications and the guidelines provided by your mobile service provider to understand the exact limitations and requirements for managing multiple eSIMs. Additionally, regulatory and network-specific restrictions can also play a role in determining the number of active eSIMs on a device in a particular region or on a specific network.

Can I use the same eSIM on multiple devices?

eSIM profiles are typically tied to a single device, and using the same eSIM on multiple devices simultaneously is usually not allowed. If you want to use the same eSIM on multiple devices, you would need to deactivate it on one device and then activate it on another. However, this process may vary depending on your mobile service provider, and some eSIM profiles may have restrictions that prevent them from being transferred between other devices as easily.

Do I need a 5G phone to use a 5G eSIM data plan?

In order to use a 5G data plan, you typically need a 5G-compatible phone or device. 5G is the fifth generation of mobile network technology, and it operates on different frequency bands and infrastructure compared to older generations like 4G (LTE) or 3G. To get unlimited data plans and take advantage of the higher speeds and lower latency that 5G offers, your device must support 5G connectivity.

If your cell phone or device is not 5G-compatible, you won’t be able to access a 5G network even if you have a 5G data plan. So, before subscribing to a 5G data plan, make sure that your mobile phones or device supports 5G connectivity and that you are within an area covered by a 5G network.

Can I use my eSIM unlimited data plan when I travel abroad?

You can use your eSIM for unlimited data while traveling internationally, provided your carrier offers international coverage and roaming services. However, roaming charges may apply, so it is recommended to check with your carrier beforehand.

I’m traveling to multiple countries – can I buy one eSIM to cover them all?

Yes, you can indeed purchase and activate our Global or Regional eSIM plan to cover multiple countries during your travels. Our Global eSIM plan provides coverage in various countries worldwide, offering you the convenience of seamless connectivity wherever your journey takes you. How can I reinstall a deleted eSIM or reinstall an existing eSIM in my new phone?

If you delete your eSIM from YOverse or lose your device, you cannot reinstall it, so if you plan to buy another plan at a later date, you will need to pay the activation fee of $0.70 Euro (which covers your eSIM for 1 year) again and reinstall a new eSIM.

How can I delete an eSIM from my phone?

If you wish, you can manually remove your eSIM. To remove your eSIM follow these steps:

Go to Settings

  • Tap Mobile data or Mobile data

    • Tap your mobile plan

    • Tap “Remove mobile plan”

If you remove your eSIM you will no longer be able to connect through this line. Any contacts you have associated with this line will default to your preferred line.

How can I allow data switching between my plans? [Advanced users]

To allow your phone to automatically select which SIM to use data from based on coverage and availability, turn on “Allow mobile data switching” in your settings. Note that if you are roaming and only want to use your YOverse eSIM or data, you should then make sure that “Allow mobile data switching” is turned off. If “Allow mobile data switching” is turned on, your phone will automatically use data from both phone plans, depending on which network is strongest at any given moment. This option is best for people who want to stay connected no matter what. There is no way to know which plan is being used at any given time, however, so this option can consume data quickly if you are not aware of it. To turn on Allow mobile data switching, follow these steps (steps may vary depending on phone model):

  • Go to Settings

  • Tap either Cellular or Mobile Data.

  • Tap Mobile Data.

    • Turn on Allow Mobile Data Switching

Your data line automatically switches for the duration of your call. Mobile data switching will not work if you are currently roaming and both eSIMs are not set to allow data roaming. Check with your provider for availability and to find out if additional charges apply.

How do I see how much data is left on my plan?

You are able to see it in the application in the “My eSIM” bubble; click on the data plan under “Active Data Plans” to view its remaining data. Once your data runs out, you will no longer have an internet connection without Wi-Fi.
